Maple Sausage Gravy Over Biscuits

The coziest Saturday morning breakfast for your family, completely from scratch. This recipe is super approachable - I’ve made it several times with a baby strapped to my chest!

This is the Saturday morning breakfast that my husband requests most often. It comes together in about 30 minutes, and you will be savoring every bite! We usually eat this with a side of assorted fruit.

Ingredients:

For the biscuits:

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 Tbsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 stick butter, melted

  • ¾ cup milk

For the gravy:

  • 1 lb ground maple sausage

  • ¼ cup flour

  • 2 ½ cups milk

  • pinch of salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Directions:

For the biscuits:

  1. Preheat oven to 425F.

  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  3. Stir in butter and milk until just combined.

  4. Drop batter onto baking sheet in heaping tablespoons.

  5. Bake 10 minutes, or until golden.

For the gravy:

  1. While the biscuits are baking, cook ground sausage in large pan over medium high heat until browned and no pink remains.

  2. Coat the sausage evenly with ¼ cup flour - stir until flour is absorbed.

  3. Slowly pour in milk, stirring constantly. Cook, continuing to stir, until desired consistency is reached.

  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Serve warm over biscuits. Enjoy!
